Motorcycle Registration Fee in Bangladesh
What BRTA says it charges to put a new motorcycle on the road in 2026, as it publishes it.

The total at registration
BRTA's citizen charter prints one total per band and nothing else: it does not break the total into its parts, so neither does this page. Engine size and the bike's unladen weight decide the band. An electric bike with a motor up to 5 kW counts with the smaller engines.
| Band, engine and weight | At registration | Every 2 years after, 4 times |
|---|---|---|
| ক. Up to 100 cc, 90 kg or less | Tk 9,313 | Tk 1,150 |
| খ. Up to 100 cc, over 90 kg | Tk 10,463 | Tk 2,300 |
| গ. Above 100 cc, 90 kg or less | Tk 10,923 | Tk 1,150 |
| ঘ. Above 100 cc, over 90 kg | Tk 12,073 | Tk 2,300 |
| ঙ. 50 to 125 cc, 90 kg or less | Tk 9,291 | Tk 1,150 |
| চ. Above 125 cc, over 90 kg | Tk 11,764 | Tk 2,300 |
BRTA's charter contradicts itself. Bands ক to ঘ split engines at 100 cc; bands ঙ and চ split them at 125 cc, and the two sets overlap. A 150 cc bike over 90 kg is Tk 12,073 under band ঘ and Tk 11,764 under band চ, and the charter does not say which applies. Ask the dealer or the BRTA office which figure your bike will be charged, before you pay.
Road tax is Tk 500 a year for a bike up to 90 kg and Tk 1,000 above. BRTA collects it two years at a time as Tk 1,150 or Tk 2,300, which its charter describes as including 15 percent VAT. The first instalment is inside the total above; four more follow at two year intervals.
What BRTA does publish separately
| Registration fee | Tk 2,000 up to 100 cc (or an electric motor up to 5 kW), Tk 3,000 above, under the Road Transport Rules 2022. BRTA's charter adds 15 percent VAT. |
|---|---|
| Number plate | One retro reflective plate with RFID tag, at the rear only (rule 36), Tk 2,260 in BRTA's charter. The clamp and frame are free. |
| Digital registration certificate | Tk 555, which BRTA's charter says includes VAT. |
| Road tax (tax token) | Tk 500 a year up to 90 kg unladen, Tk 1,000 above, under the Motor Vehicles Tax Act 1932. BRTA collects it two years at a time as Tk 1,150 or Tk 2,300: once at registration, then four more times every two years. |
| Fitness certificate | Not needed for a private motorcycle (rule 54). Only a motorcycle driven for hire needs one. |
| Ten year tax token | Not offered in any current BRTA document; the two year instalments replaced the lump sum in 2016. |
| Advance income tax | None. The Income Tax Act 2023, section 153(8), excludes motorcycles from the motor vehicle advance tax. |
| Bike on hire purchase | Add Tk 2,760, VAT included, to record the finance company. |
Above 165 cc
BRTA registers motorcycles made in Bangladesh up to 375 cc, alongside the long standing 165 cc limit, under its notification of 11 October 2023. Whether a bike above 165 cc counts as made here is a question for the dealer, answered in writing.
