How to read an electric bike's figures

Four figures do most of the work. The motor rating is given in watts; some sheets add a peak figure, but the rated figure is the one every sheet carries, so it is the fair one to compare. The top speed is the maker's own. The battery is given in volts and amp hours, and multiplying the two gives watt hours, the energy the pack holds: a 72 V 38 Ah battery holds 2,736 Wh, a 48 V 23 Ah battery 1,104 Wh. The range is the maker's quoted figure, usually printed as a spread such as 60 to 70 km.

The sheets we hold do not say under what conditions the range was measured, so treat it the way you would treat a claimed mileage: a way to rank one model against another, not a promise about your own trips.

What the sheets leave out

None of the electric bikes on this site has a published kerb weight, charging time or ABS, so this site cannot compare them on any of those. Ask the dealer for the charging time and the battery warranty in writing before you buy. We have not yet checked BRTA's rules for electric bikes, so ask the dealer and BRTA what registration the model you choose needs.

Yadea's range, the only electric one here so far

Every electric bike on this site is a Yadea, because Yadea is the only electric brand whose figures we have checked so far. Across its range the rated motor runs from 500 W to 3,000 W and the quoted top speed from 30 km/h to 62 km/h. Price and figures do not rise together: the A7 and the K2 are listed for more than the GT25 but are rated at 500 W against its 1,200 W, quoted at 30 km/h against 54 km/h, and have drums at both ends where the GT25 has a front disc.

Brakes split the range three ways: drums at both ends on the A7 and K2, a front disc with a rear drum on the Mia, GT12, both Ruibins and the GT25, and discs at both ends on the E8S200, GT60, G150P and Velax, the last with a combined braking system.
